GET EXCITED WITH “LITEN TO YOUR BODY”
On March 12th, 2017, the Hanoi Youth Union together with the Center for Initiatives
on Health and Population (CCIHP) organized a life skills training program entitled
"Listen to your body" to create a environment for students to share their knowledge
and views on reproductive health and sexuality.

Deep atmosphere when the program began was immediately broken with the first game:
"Find the mysterious crossword". Sex is not a stranger to the students but what is healthy
sex? What are the elements of healthy sex? The meaning of healthy sex is the concept
that most students do not understand. That is why many questions were asked by students
such as: "If the girlfriend asks for sex, what should I do? I am so confused that I can not
handle the physiology, but I do not want to have sex "; "How to have a safe sex?"; "How
should you refuse when the boyfriend asks for sex?"

To answer these questions, the program provided students with elements of healthy
sexual relationships which are not-abusive, willing, voluntary, responsible, fulfilling,
safe, respect, consensus; Each element was explained clearly and specifically by the host
MC. When the students understood more about the elements of healthy sex, they knew
what they would need to consider before, during and after having sex and no regrets
because of having had sex while not fully considering the elements of healthy sex.

Through the sharing of students you could also see the knowledge of students about some
modern contraceptives. However, most of them could call the name of method but they
did not know clearly about the effectiveness, how to use and the considering factors when
choosing contraceptives. After the presentation of Le Thi Lan Anh - expert from CCIHP,
basic information on contraceptives had been shared with the students. The students
listened and discussed excitingly.

Students not only were provided with the knowledge but also could practice using
condoms on the stage by participating in the game "Who is skillful?”. Many of them were
still embarrassed when using condoms and did not know the steps to use condoms, or
were shy when using condoms, however, they participated enthusiastically. After that, the
students were instructed how to use the condoms properly and some notes during the use.

The program closed with the belief and hope of the organized that the information that
"Listen to the body" brought to nearly 300 students from universities and colleges in
Hanoi will be spread to other students in Hanoi, contributing to help them to have a
healthy and safe life. We also hope that similar programs would be organized in a wider
way so that students can share and express their views and have more knowledge and
experiences.
